Maria Szabo

Maria Szabo (she/her) is a mental health counselor. Maria sees life’s problems in a developmental and holistic manner as an opportunity for growth and transformative learning. Maria works from a trauma informed perspective and keeps a mindful eye on long-term and short-term responses to traumatic situations including violence, neglect, estrangement, and non-responsive attachments. Maria has experience and the privilege of working with young people and families from very diverse backgrounds, including marginalized communities such as the LGBTQIA+ community, BIPOC communities, etc. and has always incorporated cultural and historical perspectives into her work. Maria’s therapeutic style draws from Internal Family Systems, Cognitive Behavioral therapy, Dialectical Behavior therapy, Existential therapy, Gestalt therapy, Somatic therapies, Narrative therapy, Trauma Informed therapy, Emotion Focused Therapy and Psychodynamic approaches always within the context of an empathetic, humanistic, client centered therapeutic relationship. Additionally, Maria has begun exploring couples therapy and family therapy. Maria has 15 years of experience working with adolescents with emotional and behavioral issues.
